ATTENDANCE

One of our primary concerns is that students are in school and on time. Missed class time can never really be made up. When students are absent, we ask that their parents/guardians call the school by 9:00 a.m. During the school day, if a child leaves school before the end of the day for any reason other than illness, a note will be requested from a parent/guardian before leaving. Students are asked to check in/out by signing in/out through the office. Students arriving late for school must first report to the office before going to class.

ATTENDANCE/GRADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM

In an effort to promote both academics and attendance, students may be exempt from semester tests provided they fulfill the following:

Semester Test Exemption Criteria:

1. Must have attended Hot Springs School (grades 7-12) for the entire semester

2. No more than six absences in any period (7 or more)

3. 90% or higher with 4 or fewer absences.

4. 80-89% with 3 or fewer absences.

5. 70-79% with 2 or fewer absences

6. 60-69% with 0 or 1 absences.

7. Students who do not have an exemption from an exam and choose not to take same will not receive credits in that course.

8. Students who are exempt may opt to take the semester test with the grade being used only if it improved the students semester average(s).

9. Days spent with the student being placed in "In School" or "Out of school" suspension are considered absences when determining semester test exemptions.

10. School related activities will not count against this plan. This would be any absence accompanied by a field trip form.

11. Students will be required to verify their attendance with their classroom teacher. The classroom teacher will have the final say in attendance issues.
